Drew Model Elementary School is proud to have been selected as one of 16 schools in the Washington, DC metropolitan area to be a member of the Kennedy Center's Changing Education Through the Arts (CETA) program.  Our school's partnership with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which began in 2002, helps teachers develop their expertise in integrating the arts with the teaching of other school subjects (such as history, language arts, science).  This focus on arts-integrated instruction is designed to help all students learn with greater motivation and ease.  To that end, the Kennedy Center and the schools work together to develop, implement, and evaluate an in-depth staff development of courses, workshops, coaching, and study groups.

We are excited that you have taken the time to learn more about us and the great learning opportunities that we provide for our students.  We are a countywide school for all Arlington County residents and a neighborhood school for the residents of the Nauck Community.  We provide two instructional programs which cater to the needs of all of our children. Our Graded Program is based upon traditional teaching strategies and methods, and our Montessori Program is based upon the philosophical teachings and practices of Dr. Maria Montessori.

Please feel free to continue to browse our website and learn more about what makes us an awesome learning community for children.

Buffulo
Troopers Crawford and Hill received a surprise visitor to our presentation at the Drew Model Elementary School, Arlington, Virginia. Dr. Alfred O. Taylor, a former Dean of the University of the District of Columbia sat with the 4th and 5th grade classes, over 100 students. Dr. Taylor's Great Grandfather, Alfred Pride, ran away from his Amelia Court House home, Virginia and enlisted at Washington, DC in the 9th Cavalry in 1866. Sergeant Pride retired from the 9th Cavalry in 1891, upon the return of the 9th Cavalry from South Dakota, where the Buffalo Soldiers were assigned because of the events at Wounded Knee in December 1890. Sergeant Pride was assigned to arguably the most decorated Company in any of the four Buffalo Soldier regiments, Troop K, 9th Cavalry. Sergeant Pride retired to Washington, DC, residing at 2600 I Street, NW. He died on August 2, 1910. Sergeant Pride also served with the 10th Cavalry Regiment, B Troop and the 24th Infantry Regiment, F Troop. Sergeant Pride is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
